The International Basketball Federation (FIBA) has released its latest rankings for the Best Newcomer award at this year’s Men’s Basketball World Cup, with Australian star Kiddy holding on to the top spot with 56 percent of the vote.

Kiddie is one of the best players in this year’s Men’s Basketball World Cup, contributing 11.3 points, 6.1 rebounds and 5.3 assists per game with a shooting percentage of 46.2%. He showed great leadership and court vision to help Australia reach the last eight.

Serbia’s Nikola Jovic was second with 20 percent of the vote. Jovic averaged 12.2 points, 3.3 rebounds and 3.7 assists per game, shooting 42.9 percent from the field. He was the centerpiece of the Serbian team that helped it reach the Elite Eight.

Among the other candidates, Spanish players Juan Nunez, Jane Montero and Garuba received 9 percent, 2 percent and 1 percent of the vote, respectively.

According to FIBA rules, candidates for the Rookie of the Year award must be under the age of 21 at the start of the tournament and have played in at least four games. The final winners will be announced after the Sept. 11 finals.

Kidd is currently in the lead to become the Rookie of the Year for this year’s Men’s Basketball World Cup.
